Durga Puja Arrives in Greater Noida: GREATER NOIDA BANGIYA SAMAJ Hosts First-Ever Celebration

The Puja was inaugurated with grandeur by India’s ace fast bowler, Mr. Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Amid chants of “Jai Maa Durga” and the rhythmic beats of the dhaak, he offered prayers and lit the ceremonial lamp, formally launching the festivities.

Mr. Kumar remarked, “Durga Puja is not only a religious event but also a celebration of unity, tradition, and culture. It is wonderful to see such a grand Bengali festival flourish here in Greater Noida.”

Strict Observance of Belur Math Traditions

The organizers proudly conducted the rituals in strict accordance with Belur Math’s guidelines, ensuring every puja step reflected authenticity, discipline, and devotion. From chanting of mantras to bhog offering, the sanctity of tradition was maintained with utmost respect.

“Our goal is to celebrate not just in grandeur but in true spiritual essence. Following Belur Math rituals is our way of honoring the purity of Durga Puja,” explained one of the committee members.

A Feast of Culture, Food, and Crafts

Beyond the rituals, the pandal transformed into a miniature Bengal.

  • Food Stalls: Visitors enjoyed authentic Bengali delicacies like fish fry, rolls, mishti doi, rosogolla, and phuchka, alongside the traditional bhog of khichuri, labra, chutney, and payesh. The flavors of Bengal created long queues and nostalgic smiles.
  • Art & Craft Stalls: Handloom sarees, terracotta art, conch-shell crafts, and traditional jewelry stalls brought Bengal’s artistry alive. For many, shopping at the stalls was as exciting as the puja itself.
  • Cultural Programs: Each evening featured a diverse lineup — Rabindra Sangeet, Odissi and Kathak dance, poetry recitations, Bengali plays, fashion walks in traditional attire, and youth band performances. The cultural schedule was rich enough to engage audiences across all age groups.

Live Coverage by R Bangla

In a proud moment for the organizers, R Bangla partnered as the media collaborator, providing live coverage of the festival. This ensured that not only Greater Noida but also Bengalis across India and abroad could witness the grandeur in real time.

First for the Greater Noida Bangiya Samaj, Second for the City

While Greater Noida already celebrates Durga Puja through a 25-year-old committee, this year’s effort by the Greater Noida Bangiya Samaj was their maiden celebration. For many residents, especially newcomers, this Puja offered both a spiritual anchor and a sense of community.

“This is just the beginning. With the blessings of Maa Durga and the support of our members, we hope to make this Puja bigger every year — a true cultural landmark of Greater Noida,” said one organizer.

A Festival of Heritage and Harmony

The pandal was filled with vibrant sights and sounds: elders reminiscing about Pujas in Kolkata, children enjoying toys and balloons, families in traditional attire capturing photographs, and groups of friends soaking in the food, music, and joy. The idol of Maa Durga stood as the centerpiece of devotion, glowing under soft lights, while the beats of the dhaak and the fragrance of incense created an atmosphere of deep spirituality.
